Editor,

Shavonne Lin’s Student News column, “The SAT — what it measures” in the Sept. 1 issue of the Daily Journal claimed the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) favored the rich and advantaged. Actually, the Pre-Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) taken one year before the SAT offers opportunities for students from many backgrounds to win scholarships to many very good colleges. The money is provided by organizations, and by the rich and advantaged who may have studied at that college or who have businesses in that area. The PSAT is the gateway to scholarships.
