If the president was politically astute he would nominate a conservative African American woman for the Supreme Court which would put the Democrats in an awkward position while bolstering his image among African American voters. However, this is an attribute he has never been accused of having.Â
Sorry Steven, Republicans and Trump don't look at race when making a decision on an appointment, that is what Democrats do. In California they are trying to bring Affirmative Action back showing us that Democrats are the most racist people in America. Don't play their game, it's bad for America.
Yes, nominating an African-American woman might be a calculated political move with positive benefits for Donald Trump on November 3, but it smacks of identity politics. However, with Ruth Bader Ginsburg's legacy, Donald Trump was pretty much locked into choosing a female jurist to fill the current vacancy.
There were eleven women on Donald Trump's list* but that list has been shortened to probably two candidates... Amy Coney Barrett and Barbara Lagoa. They are both federal judges and would bring some diversity to the Supreme Court. Judge Barrett attended Notre Dame Law School and Barbara Lagoa studied law at Columbia Law School. The eight current Supreme Court justices graduated from either Harvard Law School or Yale Law School... all of them.
* Does Joe Biden have a list of nominees to share with the public?
Ray--why would Biden have a list right now? He's not president. However, when he's elected in November, I'm sure he'll have a list of exemplary candidates.
Donald Trump made Supreme Court nominations part of his 2016 campaign; it probably helped him get elected. Wouldn't Joe Biden sharing who he would like to see appointed do the same? But that's really not the response to your question... "why would Biden have a list right now?" While I agree with you that Joe Biden's list would include jurists with solid credentials, it's likely some of his prospective nominees would be so far left politically that his list could actually cost him the votes of some moderate Democrats. No, they won't vote for Donald Trump... they'll just stay home on November 3.
Joe Biden is fond of making claims that Donald Trump does not show true leadership, well, now here's an opportunity for Joe Biden to show us what he thinks it means to be a true leader. A leader will develop a vision for where he or she wants the country to go then work to translate that vision into reality. OK... what is Joe Biden's vision of where we should be going? As the Supreme Court nomination process is an important part of turning that vision into reality... who would he like to see on the Supreme Court?
Maybe the question should be... with so much attention across the country focused on who might be a qualified candidate for a seat on the Supreme Court... why wouldn't Joe Biden have a list right now?
I know Joe Biden has switched positions on whether a vacancy should be filled in an election year and whether it would be proper to add more seats to the Supreme Court. Let's set that aside...
Don't you think Joe Biden's supporters deserve to know who he would like to see on the Supreme Court?
Actually, Mr. Howard, your great President Trump’s image has already been bolstered among African American voters thanks to his policies helping the black community. Perhaps President Trump will nominate a conservative African American woman for the Supreme Court during his next selection to replace Kagan or Sotomayor.

Are you moving the Conway's out of California?
I'll chip in on a mirror and a U-Haul.

Harvard and Yale dominate. Ivy privilege
Funny.
They have been dominating the news lately re: their admissions polices...
