Editor,
A public meeting was held recently regarding the Alameda de las Pulgas “4 Corners Project” from Carlmont Drive in Belmont through to Dartmouth in San Carlos.
There were a number of concerns brought up by the community about the safety and effectiveness of this very expensive plan. One of the most worrisome is they are proposing to put a chain link fence down the middle of the Alameda outside of Carlmont High. When traffic is backed up on both sides this means emergency vehicles will be blocked from using the middle of the road. Since this is one of the only thoroughfares running north-south, there are almost daily crossings by ambulances and fire vehicles. When asked about the fence issue the city’s presenter responded “Emergency vehicles can drive through the fence. My car can drive through a chain link fence, I’m sure a fire truck can as well.”
This is a major public safety issue that the city’s design team isn’t taking seriously. the overseeing boards from San Carlos and Belmont need to get involved to ensure these issues are addressed.
