Letter writer Mr. Matt Grocott said that the Bridgepointe rink in San Mateo should stay open (in the Jan. 20 edition of the Daily Journal). He is correct. Ice skating is a good recreational sport. It teaches that when you fall, you should always get up.
Many families allow their children to go and venture out into the world without much concern. Heck, I even saw a third-grader walk alone from school one day. It is better for kids to do something productive like ice skating instead of winding up in trouble because they have nothing better to do.
We need to keep the San Mateo rink open, or at least find another place to put it. The San Mateo rink needs to stay open, especially since the rink in Belmont is closing. My skating life began at Belmont. I am very sad to see it go.
