In 1980, the USA, in protest, did not send any of our athletes to the Moscow Olympics.
Might that protest happen again, to us, by other countries in 2028?
Side note: the L.A. Olympics might still be moved to South Florida — same kinda weather, infrastructure already in place and the security for POTUS will be robust.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Deutsch, but did the Moscow Olympics suffer because of the USA’s non-participation? I’d bet not and if anything, some countries were glad the USA didn’t participate as those countries had more opportunities to win medals. If countries want to boycott the Olympics in 2028, go for it. More chances for US athletes to earn more medals. I’d be more worried about folks wanting to suspend countries, such as Russia or North Korea from participating. On the bright side, there would be more opportunities for countries to win medals. BTW, you shouldn’t worry too much, security for POTUS is robust regardless of where he’s at. But I would welcome the Olympics moving to South Florida.
