Editor,
Great idea, Jon Mays, to convert a hotel into homeless and affordable housing (“Supportive housing for homeless in Millbrae is the right thing to do” column in the July 14 edition of the Daily Journal).
Who are we housing? Are we housing the Peninsula’s homeless, or are we trying to house San Francisco’s homeless that were kicked off the BART trains at the close of business?
Because people get off the train in Millbrae, why would the city of Millbrae have the burden of housing them? The problem is San Francisco kicking the can down the road to the Peninsula.
These big cities, like San Francisco, are trying to keep a pristine environment, but there is adequate housing for everyone in San Francisco. San Francisco’s downtown has 30% vacancy with companies moving out.
Convert those buildings into affordable and homeless housing, and keep San Francisco’s problems in San Francisco. It’s a shame that people like Gavin Nuisance and Scott Wiener can’t figure out there is enough housing for everyone if each city took care of its own problems.
