Regarding California state Sen. Scott Wiener’s proposed legislation to limit new vehicles to 10 miles over the speed limit, I appreciate his desire to protect us from ourselves but I think his approach is draconian.

Thanks for your letter, Mr. Altscher. Considering there’s already a practice of disregarding and disrespecting law and order, do you think traffic enforcement is a priority? You have to wonder how cars are going to know what the speed limits are on every street in the state. If via signs, folks will paint over the sign. If over the air, folks will turn off the receiver. Easier said to limit speeds than actually doing it.
