Editor,

The San Mateo “OneShoreline” Flood Control District has come forward with a drastic sea-level rise flood protection plan for Burlingame and Millbrae that proposes a 2.65-mile offshore barrier, with tidal gates, encroaching into the Bay, despite a 50-year-old state law forbidding such actions to preserve the Bay’s ecology and reverse damage caused by landfill and garbage dumping.

Well put. We should be looking to lessons learned around the world, from Netherlands to Seattle, to understand the most environmentally and fiscally responsible solutions. Thank you Gita.

KDM - you may have missed the fact that in the recent general elections in the Netherlands, the voters sent a clear message that they don't want unlimited spending on the Green Deal. They elected a conservative majority that will be scrutinizing the effectiveness of these programs and prioritize them vis-a-vis housing and overall affordability to live in the country. I am certain that sanity will prevail and many programs will be deemed superfluous or not having a desired impact. That is the lesson we need to learn here before we waste anymore funding and time on at best marginally effective programs.
