Editor,
In the “other news column” dated Sept. 26, “Dozens of Masked people smash cases and take off with jewelry in San Ramon.”
The wearing of surgical masks, ski masks and hooded sweatshirts, appears to be an epidemic and a way for masked robbers and thieves to be undetected and able get away with robberies, property damage, car theft and injuries to business owners and employees.
Perhaps a law should be passed stating that it is illegal to wear any mask, in public, without a doctor’s signed note. It is my belief that these thieves, due to their ages, are mostly teenagers and cannot be put in prison for their acts. They must be getting paid pennies on the dollar for everything they can steal and turn into their leaders. Perhaps if a law was passed stating that anyone caught committing a crime with or without a mask, be prosecuted and sent to prison, regardless of age.
It appears that COVID and mask wearing in public has opened up a freeway for theft and crime.

A peachy observation, E. Picchi, with good advice. Democrats have been supporting criminals and terrorists more than American citizens for a while so we shouldn’t rely on any legislation to hold criminals accountable. Business owners and employees, like residents, are pretty much on their own. Residents with means can become “former” residents by moving to a better locale. Small business owners, especially jewelers or coin dealers, not so much. Perhaps law enforcement could “do the rounds” and recommend safety measures to their local businesses. Including security measures both inside and outside their businesses.
