Editor,

As I see people try to defend the current administration, I cannot help but wonder why? It seems to be more about their hate for Trump than their support of Biden. His accomplishments, if any, are few and far between. The economy? People point to job numbers but fail to acknowledge over 8 million Americans held multiple jobs, the most since January 2020. Inflation was historically high and is now “under control” despite the fact the price of everything continues to increase.

Hey Joe, I like your last paragraph as the wish to return to a simpler time. As far as domestic happenings go, the enormous distortion caused by the Covid crisis, the entire world is still trying to recover. We have done better than most all others really. I'm totally with you on the need to reappraise our many foreign adventures in our Bonapartist efforts to remain "the preeminent power in the world". We're indeed bankrupting ourselves in the constant goading of China, the thirty year squeeze on Russia post 1991. and the unrequited love of most any regime in Israel regardless of their violations of the many UN resolutions to respect the natives and treat all equally. I'd say more FDR and less Attila the Hun. I hate they we are faced with a choice between a fascist and a war criminal. I'm with the "Step Aside Joe. org" campaign.

Well written, Mr Guttenbeil. Notice we have many folks posting and writing LTEs to the DJ that hate Trump more than they love America. These are the same folks who willingly ignore treasonous Biden, his crime family, and Biden’s America Last policies. But hey, perhaps we have it all wrong and Biden is working out secret deals with the invisible people he’s shaking hands with. Or Biden is sending coded messages when he starts yelling for no reason or every time he trips going up a set of stairs (and that happens a lot). Unfortunately for us, the only message this is sending is that Biden is grossly incompetent. Even Biden supporters can’t defend him.

91 criminal charges. 4 federal indictments. Convicted of fraud...and now, a shoe salesperson! Wow...the traitor can multi-task! Impressive. MAGA.

FFGig - you can't tell the forest for the trees. You and your ilk are just lucky that the fake news media are on your side. We shall see soon.

Terence Y

And yet, FFGig, your criticisms of our great President Trump continue to pale in comparison to treasonous Biden, the Biden crime family, and Biden’s America Last policies. Bigly. End of discussion. Next?

Joe, your regurgitation of the right wing talking points paints a very myopic and dystopian view of the world, and your opinions distort reality. Biden's accomplishments are many, especially given the disadvantage of Republicans' control of the House.

First, the economy. The Dow, which mirrors the public view especially their investments, is at historic heights. Jobless claims are at the lowest levels in 50 years. Wages are outpacing inflation, consumer spending is up, corporate profits are up, and thanks to the Childhood Poverty Act, childhood poverty is at a record low. These are verifiable facts which are easily seen on inspection.

Second, foreign policy. Biden closed down our longest running war and has saved lives and at least $300M a month on it ever since. He reversed the Paris Accord. He has helped Ukraine in their war which was expected to last a few days to over two years and counting without our military directly involved nor lives lost. He restored diplomacy to the WH. He strengthened NATO, with Norway and Finland now wanting entry. All of these facts are verifiable and not conjecture.

Other accomplishments: signed the first infrastructure bill in decades; signed the Chips Act bringing computer chip plants back to the U.S.; signed first meaningful gun violence reduction legislation in 30 Years resulting in reduced crime and murder rates; inoculated entire country at no out of pocket cost; brought increased green energy like offshore wind farms; helped more people be covered by health insurance than ever before; and increased Union wages and Union wages by standing on the picket lines with workers. Again, all verifiable facts, not opinions.

Immigration. The hypocrisy of the right defies all reason. The Senate worked in a bipartisan way to include the most meaningful work on the border in decades, which was designed heavily by the Republicans but, because Trump did not want Biden to get credit, shut it down. The Republicans, like dutiful sheep, did as told. This is on the record.

Space does not allow for more lists of what good Biden has done. Suffice it to say our country would be decidedly better off for four more years under Biden than re-electing Trump That is a strong opinion based on the records.

Dirk van Ulden

Rel - if there were one reason to dump Biden it would be his disastrous open border policy. Regardless of your assertion that there was a bi-partisan bill for him to enact, it was stopped, at some Republicans' peril, because it would have codified the current invasion and would have made it worse. If you can live with the billions of dollars now being spent on illegal migrants and the horrific violation of the laws that we have been so proud of, yes, go ahead. And just like Biden, you have blood on your hands. I am not even a registered Republican, but sheep they are not by any means. Your ilk in the Democrat Party vote like lemmings similar to the drones in the first Apple commercial.

Not So Common

Let's see $300 million saved each month by deserting our longest running war on August 30, 2021. That's 30 months x $300 million = $9 Billion saved. Putin and Russia knew that Biden was a lemming and was bought and paid for by Ukraine so they recognized and opportunity to invade Ukraine knowing Biden would sit on his hands eating ice cream and aid checks to Ukraine in the amount of $75 BILLION, there went that $9 billion saved by bailing on Afghanistan and it's people. There was a right way to leave Afghanistan which most people wanted and there was a wrong way, and like everything, Joe took the wrong way. All the humanitarian victories have been lost, women's right no longer exist, Afghanistan is again a breeding ground for terrorism

US Ambassador Mark Green " The ASG also concluded that American interests could be effectively pursued without a large or permanent force presence. We noted that as of 2020’s end, our presence was a comparatively modest 2,500 troops. It’s true that had we kept troops in Afghanistan, the Taliban would have viewed that as a violation of the Doha deal, and perhaps prompted them to resume their war on our forces. But with US troops in a non-combat role, risks to American lives would have been minimal.

The group also pointedly came out against a continuation of the status quo… the type of presence and projects then in Afghanistan. We argued for a smarter presence… one tied to or conditioned upon certain broad principles: reiterating support for an end goal of an independent, sovereign, democratic state; clarifying our commitment to both the existing government and a vibrant, inclusive civil society network; and engaging regional partners in the process of building a regional framework in support of a lasting peace.

We also said that the only way to ensure that the Taliban would keep to its commitments from the Doha discussions was to condition any further troop withdrawals upon both progress in peace negotiations, and fulfillment of the Taliban’s most basic pledges.

These days, Afghanistan is a very different place, and the Taliban is not the government it promised—over and over again—to be. Girls and women have been banned from secondary and tertiary education. They have effectively banned women from public parks, baths, and sports. Women also cannot travel more than 75 km without a male escort, or mahram. The Taliban’s restrictions have compelled women to stay at home, erasing 20 years of hard won progress for women’s rights. But, the Taliban takeover has affected the whole population, not just females: approximately 28.3 million people—two-thirds of the population—are in need of humanitarian assistance.

To be sure, President Biden inherited difficult choices with respect to the US presence in Afghanistan. However, it’s hard to defend how the US abruptly left Afghanistan, and impossible to defend what was left behind. Reflecting on the work of the congressionally-chartered Afghanistan Study Group, it’s clear that a nonpartisan panel of experts believed a better outcome was possible. "

Almost 80 U.S. aircraft—with control panels smashed out—were left abandoned at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport when the United States pulled out last August. The United States left behind nearly 42,000 pieces of night vision, surveillance, biometric, and positioning equipment in the Taliban-controlled country.

By the time the last U.S. transport aircraft left Afghan airspace on Aug. 30, 2021, 70 percent of U.S. weapons given to the Afghan forces over the past 16 years were left in the country as well as nearly $48 million worth of ammunition.

In all, the United States left behind more than $7 billion worth of weapons and equipment when it left Afghanistan and only an ideologue would support Joe's process.

Regarding your hypocrite Republicans, here is the POWER granted the President regarding immigration.

Section 212 (f) of the immigration and Naturalization Act -

f. Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by President

Presidential authority to suspend / Restrict entry by proclamation. Whenever the president finds that the entry of any aliens, or of any class of aliens into the United States, would be detrimental to the interest of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens, or any class of aliens as immigrants or non immigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens ANY restrictions he may deem to be appropriate

Let me know if you'd like me to prove your other points has false as well

willallen

You are so right about Afghanistan. Just keep running video of our last day there would be enough to make me never vote for him.

Thank you, Not So Common, for a thorough response. Please save this comment for future cutting/pasting when Rel regurgitates his fake talking points in the near and far future.

LittleFoot

Did you write that with a crayon?

Shakespeare himself couldn't begin to reason with these liberals in the Bay Area that defend the child sniffing corpse of Biden. Food and Gas are legit double from the Trump Era. They are letting random people into the southern border and NGOs funded by who knows who are giving them 10K a month gift cards. Its beyond comprehension. And even when confronted with all of this - they will deny it and scream "racism" This country is an absolute mess.

acomo

"Child sniffing corpse"? I really feel sorry for you. What a sick, demented comment...but, not at all surprising.

Not So Common

I love liberals who are offended by the truth... Biden is a known child sniffer, and the sniffer said this as well "I got hairy legs that turned blonde in the sun. And the kids used to come up and reach into the pool and rub my leg down so it was straight and watch the hair come back up again..."

LittleFoot

What about me calling Joe Biden a Child Sniffing Corpse is off base?
