Editor,
In the Nov. 30 letters section, Joe Guttenbeil challenged us to “please sell me on him (Biden) based solely on what he has accomplished during his first term.”
OK, let’s start with the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package, which is leading to thousands of jobs refurbishing our badges, roads, airports, public transport, national broadband internet, waterway and energy systems. This bill creates real jobs for blue collar Americans … contrast that with the $1.9 trillion tax cut for the richest of the rich foisted onto us by Trump in 2017.
And how about the $1.9 trillion COVID relief passed under Joe Biden that provided direct payments of up to $1,400 to many struggling U.S. citizens, temporarily extended unemployment support by $300 per week, channeled approximately $20 billion into the COVID vaccination program, as well as providing $25 billion in rental support and a further $350 billion into state, tribal and local relief efforts? It was also designed to tackle child poverty and nutritional issues across the country. The bill invested almost $30 billion in restaurants and hospitality and raised the maximum Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program support by 15%. Additionally, an extra $120 billion were invested into K-12 schools across the nation.
And there’s much more but I’m running out of space. Contrast those gigantic accomplishments with the paralysis and complete lack of constructive governance by the Republicans, who have become entirely focused on regaining power and have forgotten that we sent them to Washington to help American families … not to line their own pockets and serve the big money lobbyists for the rich.

That would be too much to swallow, Mr. Kistler, for someone with a too tight MAGA-hat on!
Hey Jorg - you found another cult member in Larry. Another indoctrinated leftist.
I guess I can rest my case!
Yes Jorg - your case is exemplified by Sisyphus. No rest for you.
Larry - you have a strange interpretation of accomplishments. What has he done other than giving our money away to buy votes and has caused millions of underachievers to stay at home? His so-called achievements have only made life more difficult for the majority of us and cannot be effectively measured as a sustainable success.
Here we go again, this time by Mr. Kistler with the usual “accomplishments” that are nothing of the kind. Apparently, Mr. Kistler believes that spending trillions of dollars of someone else’s money is an accomplishment. Hey Mr. Kistler, give me access to your purse-strings and I’ll spend your money, but as with the infrastructure deal, less than 5% on what I say I’ll spend the money on. Allow me to provide a short list of Biden’s accomplishments: Biden’s handling of COVID – letting people continue to die… Ending the war in Afghanistan – taking two knees and bowing to his Taliban overlords while gifting them money and arms to the tune of $80 billion… The aforementioned infrastructure bill that spends maybe 5% or real infrastructure… Rising crime rates, higher inflation, rising invasion from the south, rising funds to Ukraine for an unwinnable war, rising number of shaking hands with invisible people… Scorecard: Guttenbeil, +1, Kistler, still 0.
And there’s much more Biden lowlights. Conversely, I’d highlight our great President Trump’s accomplishments (some of which Biden is trying to take credit for) but I’m running out of space.
