I agree with Christopher Mahoney: Charter schools are the answer ("A big loss for California’s children” guest perspective in the March 13 edition of the Daily Journal).
I think a charter school gives more choice to the learner, a bigger opportunity to get good grades and more support. The learners don’t have to stick to the regular way of learning — they can go to a school that supports their values and interests.
This stops students from being bored in class, since their school philosophy interests them. Also, in a lot of cases if students’ interests, passions and strengths are valued in their school curriculum, they fell more accepted and like they are a better student. When children get more emotional support, they tend to gain confidence in themselves, giving them a better chance on tests. (The SAT, GRE, MCAT, STAR, BAR and big class tests to increase their GPA). This applies to life as well.
In many charter schools, there is more emphasize on support. Even if the school does not emphasize support, the child will get more support and feel like they get more support out of their education if they agree with their school philosophy. A good number of charter schools allows students to find a school that agrees with them. I respect your ideas and hope with your that California will allow more funding for charter schools to increase their capabilities, so that all California children get to have a good education, because the modern world revolves around smarts.
