Accomplishments, Bipartisanship and Compassion. You can argue about Biden’s age, style and political issues but we have had few presidents who can lead every day on issues like climate, jobs, economy, health, education, to every social matter. He takes on Big Business, Big Oil, Big Tech and the gun industry — all of which are threats to our democracy and country because of his personal ABCs.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Biden put together an infrastructure law that lowers health care and drug costs; fights climate change with tax credits and rebates for consumers; implements the largest federal investment in public transportation; provides equal access to the internet; partially canceled student loan debt; as well as several others things in three years.
And there was critical health care for veterans, from prior service, and efforts for gun safety legislation, through the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. Jobs — at the end of October, the country had an adjusted unemployment rate of 3.9%, one of the lowest in years. All for our future.
The challenges of Biden’s age: Clint Eastwood is making his next film at 93 and Mick Jagger at 81 is releasing an album. People with stories to tell and music to make … and things to accomplish age differently. Biden has spent more than 40 years dealing with our daily issues very well and his age has only added to his ability.
When I served our country in Army Special Forces, I learned about getting the job done; it had nothing to do with age and everything to do with leadership. The parachutes and weapons we used during operations didn’t care about the politics or age of our troops. When I take on a legal case or cause, the result has nothing to do with general acceptance, it has to do with the right principles.
BIPARTISAN: Political writer Steve Benen points out that Biden “has racked up more bipartisan victories than any president of either party in a generation.” With a dysfunctional Congress, he championed the bipartisan infrastructure law and worked across the aisle for the bipartisan Safer Communities, Act which works on gun safety legislation affecting the safety of our daily lives — including daily mass shootings.

COMPASSION: Whether talking to a young boy with a stuttering problem or calling an Amtrak worker on his health, he sees beyond the influence of billionaires. When speaking to the United Auto Workers, he said, “the fact of the matter is that you guys saved the automobile industry back in 2008.” And then Biden walked picket lines to support them in Detroit and brought them tremendous increases in basic wages.
“If you want to see how people are going to vote, look at how they are voting,” Jack Lobel of Voters of Tomorrow said. Recently, young voters turned out in Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky and voted for a woman’s right to an abortion and control of her body. Lobel said “Joe made promises on the campaign trail that he’s absolutely followed through with” — regardless of party. With several grandchildren, he is invested in the future and has a window into Gen Z and beyond.
Biden has an extraordinary team and at the top is an extraordinary woman. Jill Biden is his wife and duplicate, not only as a mother, but as an author and educator. She was the first first lady to maintain a full-time job while in office and teach at a junior college. She works with his staff much like Rosalynn Carter helped Jimmy Carter. She spearheads programs to help military families, visiting veterans across the country, their families and survivors, all to help recognize the work and dedication of our veterans.
Biden remembers the past. He works for all people, as well as those dependent on Social Security and Medicare. Biden is a person who remembers what civility means and how bipartisanship works. His team of people are committed to the working class and average family versus the executives of the corporate giants and Wall Street.
When we went on an operation in the Army or led service members in our reserves — we didn’t ask their age or politics. When I appear before a judge, I don’t care about their age or social background to obtain justice; I want someone who understands the ABCs of life.
Joe Cotchett is considered by the national press to be one of the 100 top attorneys in the country. He is in the National Trial Lawyers and California Lawyers Hall of Fame. He is a graduate engineer and then a University of California Law graduate. He served in the U.S. Army as an officer and was awarded the Distinguished Legion of Merit for his service and leadership. An author of several books, he is a longtime Peninsula resident.
Anytime a political commentary begins with the phrase "...a threat to our democracy" - you immediately know to stop listening - and then question every single thing this person says moving forward. Mr. Cotchett seems like hes really good at dressing up turds to convince people not trust their lying eyes. For somebody with so many accolades - its strange to see how delusional he is. Kinda scary tbh.
One can tell that the author is an attorney. He is great at picking and choosing so-called accomplishments that have actually been a disaster for this country. Silly anecdotes that are proven lies and made-up stories are sprinkled throughout Joe's life are highlighted but are laughable instead, even according to the WAPO. Come on, comparing this lunatic Biden with Clint Eastwood shows one where the attorney stands. He is simply representing a failed client just like any other hired gun.
Are you trying to tell us that proven lies and silly anecdotes are not part of the Trump klan? How about the "mob boss" picking and choosing the values he puts on things to glean money out of before he files for bankruptcy to stiff people out money they are owed.
And Taffy - what does that have to do with the outrageous and preposterous spin that the author foisted upon us? I figured that if I ever needed a good lawyer for whatever heinous crime I committed he would be the first on my list to call.
Dear readers, it appears November 29 is the new April 1. But assuming Mr. Cotchett is being serious, let’s revisit his ABCs of Joe Biden. Accomplishments? Yes, so accomplished that Biden’s approval rating is at 40% (hat tip to Mr. Fowler), below that of our great President Trump in the same time frame. Bipartisan? Yes, so bipartisan that during Biden’s Moloch speech, he labeled half the country as “enemies of the state.” Compassion? Yes, so compassionate for leaving Americans behind enemy lines when he took two knees to the Taliban and let's not forget the 500 American hostages in Gaza.
Let me provide more appropriate alphabet descriptors for Biden. A: abysmal – treasonous Biden’s actions in Afghanistan. B: border – treasonous actions by not enforcing the border. C: cowardly – again, treasonous Biden’s actions in Afghanistan. Of course now Biden is giving billions to Ukraine for an unwinnable war. There seems to be a common thread, and that’s a sample from Absurd, Bitter, Clueless Biden. Allow me to go down the alphabet a bit further… D (damage, as to our global reputation), E (embarrassing, as in shaking hands with invisible people), F (feeble, as in attempting to go up a flight of stairs), G (gaffes, as in most of his speeches), H (hopeless, as in his efforts to restrict Second Amendment rights to law abiding citizens)… Let me know if anyone wants me to go down the alphabet. Apologies in advance for skipping the letter “x.”

Thanks, Not So Common, for restoring my Common Core alphabet into the alphabet we know and love. A question – when Hunter goes to therapy, does he blame his peccadilloes on dear old dad? It sounds valid.
Thanks for taking the time to write an op-ed piece. It's important that we share and exchange ideas about what matters to Americans.
Yes, you are correct... there are arguments from both sides of the aisle regarding the effectiveness of Joe Biden's presidency. I will not quibble with your examples, but it's very likely other DJ readers will.
I do, however, have one question. NBC News' Steven Kornacki reported that President Biden's approval rating has fallen from 46% in January of this year to 40% this month. So, how do all the accomplishments listed by you square with President Biden's approval ratings?
I believe Mr. C - will enjoy being referred to by the full first name is Mother use to use and she called out for young Joe to be on the front porch before daylight disappeared.
Thanks for all you've done Mr. Cotchett in your career.

Obviously you thought wrong.
Perfect Joe.
