Nearly six decades ago, the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy came to California and gave a resounding speech on the virtues of decency that holds permanence today.

“If there is one overriding reality in this country,” he proclaimed, “it is the danger that we have an erosion of a sense of national decency.” Famously, he continued, “Poverty in this country is indecent.”

Isn't it striking that we seem to have plenty of funding for those who are just a drag on our economy, such as the homeless and drug addicts, but have to beg for funding for those who are enriching our lives. The farm workers just over the hill from us certainly deserve better and more respect. Belinda should not have to write such a compelling story, shame on us.

Speaking of funding, it looks like Newsom is adding another $200 million for the homeless, bringing his grand total to what, at least $19 billion to address the homeless? How many taxpayer paid bus tickets/plane fare to Eugene, Oregon could have been purchased with that money?
