Drilling for oil off the coast of California has been something most people thought had been forbidden for decades. When the issue was recently revived as a possibility by the current federal government administration, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors decided to join almost every other California jurisdiction in fighting back against the idea. A resolution was approved unanimously at the Jan. 23 board meeting supporting a continuing ban on new offshore oil and gas drilling, fracking and other well stimulation in federal and state waters.

We join Gov. Jerry Brown, state Attorney General Xavier Becerra, the state Lands Commission, U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein and the California Coastal Commission in condemning the latest move by the White House to send the state backward rather than forward.

This is how Trump is running circles around the Democrats. He says a few things that drive his opposition absolutely mad and gets them to focus attention on it instead of going on the offense. I bet he has no plans to actually drill off our coast but just saying it will get Democrats to use all their ammunition on something meaningless and is a diversion of their resources. Democrats being constantly on defense by this president is the easiest way to keep their liberal policies from getting any traction. Exactly the way our president and his followers want it.

Because sea otters rely entirely on dense fur for insulation they are especially vulnerable to oil spills. An oil spill would be catastrophic to all marine life, but especially to sea otters.

Chris, So was the purpose of also including 4 states that have Republican Governors and US Senators, each which have threatened legal action against Trump and the Government if they try to drill, a diversion to embarrass Republicans.

If you believe that Trump would drill off of Florida you got to be kidding yourself. There will be no oil drilling off either coast, I guarantee it. If the left wants to overreact over everything this president says, knock yourselves out. I'm just saying you are using way to many resources fighting this president.
