San Carlos resident Winona Marie Budrick, who taught for 50 years in Coastside elementary schools died December 20th at the age of 85 in her home after a prolonged battle with congestive heart failure. Her son John cared for her with the assistance of his sisters and caregivers for nearly two years before her passing. She is now at peace with her lord and savior and a holy host of departed family and friends.

Mrs. Budrick was born in Los Angeles, California in the winter of 1938 and moved to Ketchikan, Alaska before her family settled down in Vancouver, Washington where she graduated from Battleground High School. In college she earned a scholarship for violin and played in the University orchestra and worked in the dining room to earn her way through school. She was a graduate of Washington State University in Pullman with a bachelor's degree in education. While raising young children, she earned a master's degree from University of San Francisco in elementary education and earned a Reading Specialist credential.
