The Rev. Robert Grover Caughey, born Dec. 17, 1926, died suddenly at the age of 90 Wednesday, June 14, 2017, after a brief illness.
A resident of San Mateo, Bob was born in Salt Lake City and served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He received his master’s degree from the University of Michigan in 1949 and began his 65+ year career as a mechanical and electrical engineer. Bob was ordained as a deacon of the Episcopal Church 1973. During his ministry, he devoutly served parishioners in various churches, most recently, St. Matthew’s. He often brought communion to those unable to attend church. He will be remembered for his kind heart and his unwavering faith in both his church and his family.
Preceded in death by his wife Nancy and daughter Sandra. Survived by children Bill McClurg (Marianne), Dale Caughey (Kathy), Melissa Jones (David) and Roberta Powers (Jim Wettstein); eight grandchildren: Gina, Mark, Nicole, Douglas, Duane, David, Anne and Alexander); one great-granddaughter Cadence.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at St. Matthew Episcopal Church in San Mateo. Donations in his name to St. Matthew’s are appreciated.
