Sarah Elizabeth “Sally” Yeatman, born July 26, 1935, died Sunday, April 29, 2018.
Sally grew up in Glendale and graduated from Glendale High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Art at University of California, Santa Barbara, followed by a master’s degree from San Francisco State University. She lived in the Bay Area all her adult life.
Sally was a special education teacher, working with children who were blind, deaf and both blind and deaf. She also worked with autistic children. She received a Teacher of the Year Award in San Mateo County.
Sally loved dogs, and adopted a series of dogs from the Humane Society. She was a sports enthusiast, and in earlier years was an excellent tennis player and a fine swimmer. She was a Giants fan, and she attended the Giants’ first game at Candlestick Park.
She is survived by a daughter, Laurie Peters, a grandson, Danny Arellanes, and her cousins Caroline Helmuth, Stuart McDougal and Donna Evleth.
A family memorial event was held in Redwood City. Sally’s favorite charities were Habitat for Humanity; Physicians for Social Responsibility; Youth Homes, Inc., in Walnut Creek; and Nature Conservancy.
