Peter Michael Kanalakis, a resident of Millbrae for 57 years, died in Millbrae March 20, 2011. He was 86.
Husband of the late Mary Kanalakis for 49 years and father of Joanna and Penny Kanalakis; father in-law of Randy Bowman. Cherished Papouli of Nathan and Chloe. Also survived by his loving brothers Mike, John and Mitchell, along with many nieces and nephews. Lastly, he is survived by his loving cat companion "Bobby” of 18 years.
A native of Sunnyside, Utah, but grew up in San Leandro and moved to Millbrae to raise his family. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater in World War II. He retired as a chemist. He was an avid bike enthusiast and loved long days relaxing at the beach. His charming, lovable personality, warm smile and unforgettable character will always be remembered by his family and friends. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 27 at the Chapel of the Highlands, on El Camino Real at 194 Millwood Drive in Millbrae. The Trisagion will begin at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 900 Alameda de las Pulgas in Belmont, followed by interment at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo.
