Manuel Martinez died in his home Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018. He was 96. He was born on May 31, 1923, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and moved to San Francisco to join the war effort. He achieved the rank of Seaman 1st Class in the United States Coast Guard. He was honorably discharged following active service that took him to every corner of the globe. After the end of World War II, back in San Francisco, he met his first wife and mother of his nine children, Jeanette Joyce Montoya. They enjoyed life together in their home in San Mateo’s Shoreview community where he worked and retired as a custodian for the San Mateo County School District. He was a wonderful spirit that was revered by his family, friend and neighbors. He is survived by his second wife Alicia “Rosie” Flores; his children: Richard, Gerald, Paula and Shawn; and eight grandchildren. He will be sorely missed.
Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, at Golden Gate National Cemetery, 1300 Sneath Lane in San Bruno.
