Keith Anthony Fitzpatrick passed away on June 9, 2024 at the age of 68 surrounded by his loved ones. In his last few days, he was able to hug and say goodbye to all of his children, their partners and 7 grandchildren. Keith was born on September 9, 1955 in San Francisco to Marie and Eugene Fitzpatrick, his family moving to San Mateo where he was raised. There he met his wife Maggie (Hillyard) marrying in 1980. Keith and Maggie raised three of their children in San Mateo before moving to Foster city in 1987, there they had two more children making Foster City their permanent home.
At the age of 18, and guided by his late Uncle Joe Canedo, Keith became a member of the Carpenters Union Local 22 of San Francisco, just this year becoming a 50 year member dedicated to his craft. He became well known in the San Francisco building industry working in some of the finest hotels and buildings, he worked for some of the finest contractors as well, ending his last 10 years with (Charles) Pankow Builders before being forced into retirement due to a life-threatening illness.
Keith was diagnosed in 2004 with a rare blood disease, Aplastic Anemia. In 2007 he received a bone marrow transplant from a donor. Born a fighter, he survived the bone marrow transplant which led to many more illnesses over the next 20 years. Keith spent many days and nights being treated at UCSF’s hospitals and clinics for various illnesses. Always treated with great care, he met and became very fond of all the doctors, nurses and staff members. In the end, Keith fought his last battle with a rare form of skin cancer. Keith was willing to put himself through trials over the years in the hopes it would help others down the road but more recently and most importantly it would allow him a chance to meet his sixth and seventh grandchildren. A fighter to the end, he pushed forward, as he did with everything.Keith was gifted the chance to meet and love our two newest grand babies.
As well as being a builder, Keith was a craftsman and a hobbyist. He enjoyed leather crafting, birdhouse building, and tying flies. Always on the go, he was an avid fly fisherman belonging to the Peninsula Fly Fisherman‘s club. He was also a member of many other groups which consisted of several prayer groups, California Lodge no. 1 Oddfellows, Nocturnal Adoration Society, and his cherished 4th day men’s group at St. Barts. Keith also volunteered for the Samaritan house for many years delivering meals to the less fortunate.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie and their five children. Keith (Lisa), Melinda (the late Jeffrey Galaviz), Megan Clifford (Andrew), Colleen Chavarin (Paul) and Kevin (Caroline). He leaves behind his seven adored grandchildren, Keith and Ryder, Cruz and Amaya, Molly and Seana, and Cillian. He is also survived by his two sisters Kate and Karen, many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Through the services of Sneider & Sullivan & O’Connell’s funeral home, Keith was cremated and as a lifetime member of St. Timothy, a Memorial Mass will be held for Keith on July 12, 11:00 a.m. at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 1515 Dolan Ave., San Mateo, CA with a reception following at Par 3 at Poplar Creek, 1700 Coyote Point Dr. San Mateo.
