John William Turnbull, born Dec. 6, 1944, died peacefully on July 4, 2017, at the age of 72. A resident of San Mateo.
Son, brother, uncle and friend. John touched many lives with his gentle spirit, kind heart, example of humility and perseverance. He worked diligently and dependably at Mills-Peninsula hospital kitchen for 41 years. John was a people person. He was the eldest of five siblings. He was very devoted to his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved to go dancing at the Villa Hotel. He was a man of strong faith in God and was a member of St. Gregory’s church for many years. He was observed often by neighbors walking to church, the mall or the bus stop.
John is survived by his sisters: Jean Mirassou and Kathleen Terry; and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John Robert Turnbull and Alice Acosta, stepfather Lucian Acosta, brother Robert Turnbull and sister Nancy Tilley.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 28th Street and Hacienda Avenue, San Mateo. Interment at Skylawn Memorial Park, San Mateo.
