MURRIETA — A 70-year-old man accused of killing one in a shooting rampage at a Korean Christian retreat center will stand trial on charges of murder and attempted murder.
A Riverside County Superior Court judge ruled Friday that there was enough evidence to try John Suchan Chong for the April 2009 shootings.
Authorities said Chong confessed to shooting a woman and attempting to kill three others at the Kkottongnae (GOHT’-dohng-nay) Retreat Camp, which is run by Korean nuns in a rural area.
Police said Chong was injured and disarmed in a struggle that ended the rampage.
Chong, a handyman at the retreat, had disagreements with the two couples targeted in the attack.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
