My next car will be an electric bicycle. I will probably never buy another car, I expect my current one to last at least another 20 years and after that I will likely join a car share with friends.
Those with gas cars will waive to the EVs stuck without charging ability when the grid goes down.
Lou, I’ve heard folks are ideating about installing bicycles next to rechargers so drivers and their families can pedal their way to a quicker recharge. No word on whether they’ll charge rental fees for using the bikes. A partnership with Peloton? Maybe free bike time for those training for long distance bike races? Or workouts for those who ate a little too much during the Christmas (guilty). Maybe Elon Musk can install human-size “Hoop-la” hamster wheels to recharge those stuck with EVs. Happy New Year!
After buying two cars (Prius and SUV) making it through the payments, I hope to never buy another car.
Thomas - may be not a car but the batteries have a life expectancy. Replacements run from $15K to $25K depending on the car model. I buy high-end used European cars and can buy a lot of gas for the $30,000 difference in price. I also have the convenience of a 5 minute fill up.
