A man accused of tricking prosecutors and judges into thinking he was a criminal defense lawyer has turned himself into the police.
Shawn Sadighian, 27, surrendered to Sacramento police Friday after two days on the run from authorities. "He walked over to the jail with his lawyer and turned himself in," said Sacramento Police Lt. Sam Somers. Sadighian was accused of giving legal advice to defendants despite the fact that he has no license to practice law. He was booked into jail on a felony charge of taking money under false pretenses.
Sadighian presented himself as a criminal defense lawyer in courthouses in Sacramento and San Joaquin counties, according to a lawyer whose State Bar number Sadighian was using. Prosecutors in Sacramento, Yolo and San Joaquin counties are investigating how many cases they might have to retry because of legal problems arising from Sadighian's unlicensed legal advice.<
