BAKERSFIELD — A Southern California woman convicted of conspiring with her lover to kill her husband was denied a new trial and sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
A jury in Bakersfield last year found Sabrina Limon, 38, guilty of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and other charges.
Robert Limon, a railroad worker, was found shot to death in 2014 in the train yard where he worked. Prosecutors said Sabrina Limon conspired with former firefighter Jonathan Hearn in the killing so they could be together.
She showed no emotion Wednesday when the judge announced her sentence, the Bakersfield Californian reported.
“No amount of time Sabrina spends in prison will ever bring my brother back,” Lydia Marrero, Robert Limon’s sister, told the court before the sentencing.
Hearn, who pulled the trigger, received a 25-year sentence in November after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter and testifying against his former lover. During his sentencing hearing, Hearn apologized.
Defense attorney Sharon Beth Marshall vowed to appeal the decision to deny a new trial, arguing that Limon’s former lawyer, Richard Terry, failed to properly prepare his client before she took the witness stand.
“I told the family this isn’t over,” Marshall said. “We are not done.”
The case gained national attention after “Dateline NBC” aired an episode on the case called “Secrets in Silver Lakes,” referring to the lakefront community where the Limon family lived.
According to Hearn, he and Limon hatched the plot to kill Robert Limon and then get married so that Hearn could become the stepfather of Limon’s children. Hearn said he and Limon wanted them to be raised by “godly parents.”
Limon admitted to having an affair with Hearn but said she knew nothing about a plot to kill her husband.
Julie Cordova, Sabrina Limon’s sister, has been caring for the children since Limon was arrested in January 2017.
