A safe bed, with a door that locks, can be life-changing for thousands of the Bay Area’s houseless residents. Providing basic needs like security and running water, interim housing projects may be getting a boost from lawmakers this year, while politicians and developers wrangle over affordable and permanent solutions.

Spotlighting San Jose as a successful example of the interim housing approach, state Sen. Josh Becker, D-Menlo Park, and San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan spoke Monday in support of Senate Bill 1395, or the Interim Housing Act of 2024.

Not So Common

"A safe bed, with a door that locks, can be life-changing" Even a door that doesn't lock would be life-changing if one is homeless and living on the street. If the government is the fix, then homelessness will never be fixed. If blue collar workers, grandmas, stay at home moms, entrepreneurs, Silicon Valley workers and students put their minds together I bet a solution could be found at a reasonable cost.

Well-reasoned, Not So Common. I'd like to throw out a potential solution… Have everyone that works for the homeless industrial complex house a homeless person and provide services until such time the homeless person is able to stand on their own. Have folks that talk the talk walk the walk. What are the chances that this solution will occur or see the light of day? Virtually nonexistent? I know much of the homeless industrial complex wants their piece of the $billions the state is tossing out, and solving the issue is bad for their wallets. Regardless, vote no on any state proposals asking for more of your hard earned money to be transferred to the homeless industrial complex. Otherwise, as Not So Common has stated, homelessness will never be fixed.
