A 54-year-old San Mateo resident has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly shooting at the vehicle of three teenage Hillsdale High School students who had egged his house, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The man, Craig Miceli, allegedly shot at the teenagers’ car as they drove away from his home in the early morning of May 23. He told police officers the teens had both egged his house and poured oil on his front yard earlier that week because they didn’t like his daughter, the girlfriend of a boy they knew from school, Wagstaffe said.
Miceli allegedly told officers he was frustrated with the way his daughter was being bullied at school and admitted to shooting the gun, Wagstaffe said. A bullet hole was found on the passenger side of the victim’s car.
The three teenagers — who had been pulling pranks in the nearby neighborhoods, Wagstaffe said — originally didn’t report the shooting but were pulled over by the Foster City Police Department and informed officers of the incident.
Miceli’s bail was set at $25,000 and a preliminary hearing on three charges — assault with a firearm, shooting at an occupied automobile and an additional charge of possessing an unlawful assault weapon that was allegedly found at his house via search warrant — was set for June 9.
