Housing for 19 families displaced by the Jan. 23, 2023, mass shooting in Half Moon Bay is a step closer to reality through a vote of the Board of Supervisors to allocate nearly $6 million toward buying and installing 47 manufactured homes at 880 Stone Pine Road.

Since the shooting, the city of Half Moon Bay identified a parcel it owns for farmworker housing. The county, along with the city and numerous partners, is working to create a new neighborhood for farmworkers and their families.

More about the Mercy Housing proposal, please. Its roots go back to the Sisters of Mercy. If memory serves, the nuns let the order's property be converted to housing for vets and seniors.

Not So Common

Sounds similar to NY where Mayor Eric Adams evicted veterans and made room for illegal immigrants. Why would our country and cities not support the most honorable men and women who fought for freedom over illegal immigrants and foreign workers? https://nypost.com/2023/05/13/outrage-grows-over-vets-evicted-from-hotels-to-house-migrants/

Mercy Housing just borrowed its name from the religious nuns. It is now a well endowed NGO with fancy offices in SF and a well compensated staff. Nothing in common with the former nuns.

Yosemite Says

A post office address is not necessarily an indicator that a place is within a city's jurisdiction. In this case the shootings were outside the City on farms located in the unincorporated area and subject to County enforcement. Credit is due for both the County's and the City's reactions since. Here we see an excellent example of cooperation between the two jurisdictions to help alleviate substandard living conditions for farmworkers. From the standpoint of accurate history, though, it would be nice to see an end to the widespread misreporting about the locations of the shootings.
