The case is presently set for preliminary hearing on 1-16-2001 9:00 with a four day estimate. The defendants are in custody on $100,000 bail. Pacifica PD arrested suspect for alleged brutal three hour rape of 19-year-old woman behind a church by acquaintance, told victim he was doing her a favor by raping her. After arrest, the defendant told police he has been arrested for rape before and beat it, and he will beat this one.
The case is set at 8:45 in Dept. 24, Judge Stephen Hall, to set a new jury trial date. Previously the defense motion to continue the jury trial since the defense attorney remains in the jury trial in People v. Carleton Cook was granted. The penalty phase in the Cook case starts on 1-16-2001. The defendant is in custody on $250,000 bail. The defense attorney is Ray Buenaventura (PDP).

Redwood City Police Department search of apartment revealed six grams of methamphetamine in desk. Defendant was 11550 and had crack pipe in underwear. Jury trial convictions.
The case is set at 9:00 in Dept. 41, Retired Judge Thomas Smith, for imposition of sentence. On 11-14-2000 after a six day jury trial, the jury returned verdicts of guilty on all three counts: I 11377(A) felony, II 11550 and II 11364. The jury found co-defendant Karczewski not guilty (he was charged only in Count I 11377). The defendant remains out of custody on $15,000 bail bond. The defense attorney is Jeffrey Hayden (PDP).<
