A man who witnessed the fatal shooting of his best friend on Interstate Highway 380 two years ago testified in San Mateo County Superior Court yesterday.
Jeffrey Chin testified in the trial of Tito Sedeno and John Navarro, both 22, who allegedly killed Raymond Gardner, 22, of Pacifica on Jan. 12, 2003. Gardner was shot in the back of his head as he rode in a car on Highway 380 near San Bruno.
Early that morning Chin, Gardner and two friends were returning home from visiting a friend in San Jose. Chin and Gardner were in separate cars riding in tandem.
According to the prosecution, sometime after 3 a.m. the driver of the car carrying Gardner honked at the defendants' Chevrolet Tahoe, which was weaving through traffic. The defendants allegedly then fired at the passing car, killing Gardner.
Sedeno and Navarro were arrested later that morning in San Francisco's Mission District-area, following a high-speed chase across the San Mateo and Bay bridges and through city streets.
At a May preliminary hearing, Richard Sedillo, a third man riding in the Tahoe, testified that Sedeno was driving the Tahoe and shooting at the same time.
