Three 3-week-old kittens were rescued from inside the base of a boom lift at a Redwood City construction site Tuesday.
Peninsula Humane Society officers responded to reports of cats crying for help from inside the four-wheeled machine with a retractable arm and basket used to lift construction and maintenance workers into the air to access projects.
Using a portable inspection camera, officers were able to obtain footage of the kittens showing where they were located. They were able to use a bird net to capture and remove the dehydrated kittens from the machine. Veterinarians at PHS’ kitten nursery in Burlingame concluded the three were in good condition despite being trapped in the boom lift for a few days.
Once the three kittens, named John, Wendy and Peter by PHS staff, reach 2 pounds they will be placed for adoption at PHS’ adoption center at 1450 Rollins Road in Burlingame.
