Brenda Spencer, who killed two people and wounded nine others in the nation's first high-profile school shooting, is seeking to return to a society where the crime she committed 22 years ago has become disturbingly frequent.
Spencer is expected to ask for her freedom when she attends a parole hearing Tuesday at a state prison where she is serving a 25-years-to-life sentence for her attack on children and adults gathering for the start of classes at San Diego's Grover Cleveland Elementary school in 1979.
She is unlikely to be granted parole because of the nature of the crime, a lack of demonstrated remorse and some recent erratic behavior in prison, said Richard Sachs, a San Diego County deputy district attorney who will make the case for keeping her behind bars.
