After shouting that he wanted a new defense attorney at his last court appearance Sept. 29, one of the two alleged co-conspirators to a Hillsborough woman charged with conspiring to murder the father of her two children is set to receive new legal counsel, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Kaveh Bayat
Charles Smith and John Halley, two defense attorneys retained for Kaveh Bayat, were relieved of their responsibilities Thursday and the county’s private defender program was appointed to his case. He will next appear in court Nov. 14 with his new lawyer and to set a new trial date, according to prosecutors.
Tiffany Li
Bayat, 31, is known to be the boyfriend of Tiffany Li, 32, who is charged with conspiring to murder Keith Green, a Millbrae man and father of her children. Li, along with Bayat, who is believed to have pulled the trigger of the gun that killed Green, and 42-year-old Olivier Adella, a Burlingame man who’s been accused as the muscle behind the crime, are facing murder charges in the shooting death of 27-year-old Green, with whom Li was alleged to have a custody dispute at the time of his disappearance April 29, 2016, according to prosecutors.
Olivier Adella
Almost two weeks after Green met up with Li at a Millbrae pancake house the evening he disappeared, his body was discovered near a Sonoma County homeless encampment May 11, according to prosecutors.
Though Li posted $35 million bail by putting up several Bay Area properties valued at $62 million along with $4 million in cash in April, Bayat remains in custody with bail set at $35 million, according to prosecutors.
