A Redwood City man who pleaded no contest to forcible rape in September for sexually assaulting a woman seeking a job at a janitorial company he worked for in 2016 was sentenced to three years in prison Thursday, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Probation was denied for 50-year-old Eudoro Magana, who was out of custody on a $200,000 bail bond and was remanded into custody Thursday. He will receive 18 days credit for time served and will be required to register as a sex offender for life, according to prosecutors.
The felony plea deal Magana took in court Sept. 4 came after more than two years of court proceedings since the May 5, 2016, incident in which he took a woman to an empty building at around 10 p.m. on the premise that they would see if the janitorial company employing him would hire her, according to prosecutors.
Shortly after arriving at the building, the woman discovered they were alone and rejected several of Magana’s sexual advances. He is said to have brought her into a storage closet, where he forced her to take her clothes off and raped her despite her protests. As they were driving back to her home, he told her not to tell anyone, according to prosecutors.
The incident was reported to police after the woman told her son and brother what happened the next day, according to prosecutors.
Magana’s case was assigned to defense attorney Mark Camperi in May after Judge John Grandsaert ruled Magana’s previous defense attorney Daniel Everett failed to provide proper representation of his client and ordered him removed from the case, according to prosecutors.
Restitution for Magana’s case is yet to be determined, and he will next appear in court Dec. 7 for review of HIV results, according to prosecutors.
Camperi could not be immediately reached for comment.
