A Belmont man was arrested after threats were allegedly made against a Maronite church in Millbrae, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said.
Alexi El Kadi, 50, was taken into custody about 8:40 a.m. Friday, deputies said.
The Sheriff’s Office said a social media post indicated a “potential attack” was planned at mass on Sunday at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church in the 600 block of El Camino Real in Millbrae.
Deputies were told there was a history of harassment toward an organizer at the church, “resulting in sustained fear and concern for attendee safety,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
A gun violence restraining order was served on El Kadi to prevent access to firearms, deputies said. He was accused of making criminal threats and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility. The offense can be prosecuted as either a misdemeanor or a felony. Bail was set at $50,000.
“I am thankful for the community member that alerted our office allowing us to quickly take the suspect into custody, keeping our community safe,” Sheriff Christina Corpus said in a press release.

Hey Terry, I thought your favorite smaller government. What’s up with this? You are starting to sound like a Democrat.
