A San Bruno man accused of killing a 2-year-old Chihuahua in an angry outburst Tuesday is behind bars and facing three years in state prison for a felony animal abuse charge, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office and the San Bruno Police Department.
Jiajun Wang, 35, is believed to have thrown the dog, named Anastasia, against the wall and later told her owner, his roommate, he was sorry and would pay for the damage when she came home to find her pet lifeless, according to prosecutors and police.
At noon, Tuesday, officers responded to a call on the 700 block of Green Avenue in San Bruno after receiving reports from Anastasia’s owner that her pet was killed. An investigation revealed Wang had gotten angry after the dog barked at him, picked her up and threw her, according to prosecutors and police.
Wang allegedly applied for a court-appointed lawyer when he appeared in court Wednesday, but a judge denied his application because he earns too much money to qualify. He remains in custody on $50,000 bail, according to prosecutors.
The San Bruno Police Department is still investigating the crime in collaboration with the Peninsula Humane Society and Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Those with more information are encouraged to call police at 616-7100, or email sbpdtipline@sanbruno.ca.gov.
