Alexander Gounaropoulos

Alexander Gounaropoulos

A 27-year-old Foster City man who pleaded no contest to misdemeanor filing of a false police report for a November “swatting” attempt on a retired San Mateo County judicial officer was sentenced to six months in county jail and three years probation Thursday, according the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

Alexander Gounaropoulos may be allowed to modify his sentence to a residential drug treatment program after spending 60 days in jail. Out of custody on his own recognizance, Gounaropoulos received two days credit for time served and was allegedly remanded back into custody Thursday to begin his sentence, according to prosecutors.

This article is very confusing. Among other things, the writer should not have presumed that a layperson reading this article knows the legal term "swatting"

Please explain what "swatting" is. Not everybody who reads articles like this is familiar with terms like that.
