Victim in San Carlos
fatal crash named
A South San Francisco woman died Sunday after she was ejected from the rear of a sport utility vehicle headed northbound Highway 101 just south of Holly Street in San Carlos, according to authorities.
Kathy Norman, 53, was one of four passengers in the vehicle, a white Ford Explorer driven by a 21-year-old man also from South San Francisco.
According to the CHP, around 5:45 p.m. the vehicle's left rear tire went flat and when the driver steered toward the right shoulder, he lost control of the vehicle and the SUV overturned onto its roof.
Three other passengers in the vehicle were taken to Stanford Hospital with minor injuries, according to the CHP.
The driver was traveling at the posted speed limit. It appears the fatally injured passenger was not wearing her seat belt, the CHP reported. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident.
Anyone with information regarding this accident is asked to contact CHP Officer Adam Rakela at (650) 369-6261.
