• At its Monday meeting, the San Carlos City Council reviewed a report on damaged license plates by Greg Rothaus, captain of the San Carlos Bureau of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. Rothaus said officers issued an estimated 100 tickets in the last year to drivers with plates unreadable by optical license plate readers due to scratches, stickers or other forms of damage. He said a fine and proof of correction is all that is required of drivers who receive tickets, and that paper license plates are another item officers are looking out for as vehicles with paper fillers from car dealers for plates have been used in some recent incidences of residential burglaries.
