· The San Mateo Planning Commission is continuing its deliberation on the Bay Meadows Specific Plan Amendment from its Aug. 16 meeting to a special meeting Sept. 8. The public hearing on the issue is closed and the commission is slated to take a vote that will act as a recommendation to the City Council. The plan would modify the Bay Meadows Specific Plan to eliminate the existing race track and allow the development of as much as 1,500 residential units, 1.5 million square feet of office space and 150,000 square feet of retail space. The plan also calls for 15 acres of open space, including a 12-acre park and two medium-sized parks. The proposal spurred three years of community meetings over the use of the site and has been under review by the city for about a year.
