o Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill authored by Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco/San Mateo, allowing greater public access to government contracts as well as audits and reviews of public agencies. The bill prohibits a state or local agency from allowing an outside entity to control the disclosure of information otherwise subject to the state's Public Records Act.
o Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill authored by Sen. Joe Simitian, D-Palo Alto, extending San Mateo County's child care subsidy pilot project which is the first of its kind in the state. The program, now extended to at least January 2014, gives the county more flexibility in providing subsidized child care. The extension gives an extra 290 children from low-income families affordable child care and extra care hours to children throughout the county.
