Six of 10 apartments at 720 Bounty Drive in Foster City are uninhabitable after a fire in the three-story building at 10:46 a.m. Thursday.
Smoke was coming out of the attic area when the first firefighters arrived on scene less than five minutes after the call. The first arriving fire and police units assisted an occupant with medical needs while other firefighters located the fire. The fire was put out in about 15 minutes and there were no injuries, according to fire officials.
The cause of the fire is being investigated but appears to be accidental. It originated in the wall of a second-floor unit that has having some plumbing repaired. The fire spread up through the wall space to the attic. The living and attic spaces had sprinklers which kept the fire in check until firefighters could put it out, according to fire officials.
The American Red Cross is providing temporary housing for eight displaced residents and firefighters remained on scene for another hour to remove water. Damage is estimated to be several hundred thousand dollars, according to fire officials.
