A five-vehicle collision in Foster City on the San Mateo Bridge on Sunday evening resulted in the death of one person and the injury of two others.
The accident occurred at 5:15 p.m. when Alex Kalaftis, a 32-years-old resident of Daly City, was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, going westbound on SR-92. He approached an already in progress three-car collision, according to Paul McCarthy, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol. The three-car collision involved a Chevrolet Blazer and two other vehicles in the right-lane. At this point, Kalaftis attempted to avoid the collision by veering further to the right.
Instead of avoiding injury, he and his passenger fell from the vehicle and she rolled underneath the Blazer and was killed.
The 28-year-old female has not yet been identified by the California Highway Patrol.
She was life-lifted by helicopter to Stanford Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.
West bound SR-92 92 was shut down for approximately 20 min. to land the life flight helicopter for evacuation.
Both Kalaftis and his passenger were wearing helmets. Kalaftis was treated at Stanford for minor injuries and released.
The three-car collision involving the Blazer did not result in any major injuries.
