On May 28, those in the mood for some music should hang out in Redwood City for a full day of live music during the annual "Groovin’ in the Grove: A Community Day of Music,” which benefits the band classes at Redwood City middle schools.
From 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. enjoy the band fest which starts with the Stanford University Band. At 6:30 p.m., enjoy American roots and blues band Jake Jacobs and rock ’n’ roll band High ‘n Tight, with vintage light show.
The event starts at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 28 at Woodside High School Performing Arts Center, 199 Churchill Ave. in Woodside. Tickets are $5 for students, $10 for general or $20 for the evening concert.

Looking for summer workshops? Elizabeth Stone is offering informal high school groups to enhance reading comprehension, vocabulary, analysis, oral reading and writing skills.
Three sessions are offered, each with nine classes. The first session begins June 6 while the last will be held in August. Cost is $200 per session. Books are not included but are available at the public library.
Instructor Doria Charlson, a junior from Stanford University, has been leading creative year-round teen programs for the past two years through the Diller Teen Foundation. Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation awarded 51 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grants in California in January. These schools received grants during the fall 2010 grants cycle, and they are some of the more than 480 schools or parent organizations that were awarded a grant for parent-initiated school improvement projects benefiting K-12 public education across the United States.

All the projects will advance to the county fair. And, for those curious readers, Spooner found men talk more on their cellphones while driving.
