Interested in joining the drumline? Drum World in San Mateo will begin holding drumline classes in October. Beginner, intermediate and intermediate/advanced courses will be held. Students can audition for placement in each line. Classes are designed to improve the skill set of any snare drummer and also support the end goal of a drumline at each high school by 2011.

Classes will meet at 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Sunday of each month and last four hours. Cost is $40 per class and located at Drum World in San Mateo 1220 S. El Camino Real. For more information contact Danny Descalzo at 346-4081 or dannydescalzo@yahoo.com. Deadline to sign up is Sept. 30.

Tina Quach, originally from Daly City, won $500 in the Roommate of the Year contest. Her video, entitled "American Superhero” is eligible to win the grand prize of free rent for a year, up to $12,000, plus $10,000 in cash.

Recognizing that families everywhere are coping with the financial stress of getting their children ready to return to school, Corporate America Family Credit Union dedicated its summer to helping local children get the supplies they need for the upcoming school year.

The member-owned financial institution, located at 220 Lincoln Centre Drive in Foster City, recently held its fourth annual "Project Backpack” school supply drive to benefit local students in need. This year’s drive was a great success, yielding dozens of items, including: Pencils, binders, markers, backpacks, folders, glue sticks, crayons, notebooks and monetary donations which were recently passed along to the kids at George Hall Elementary in Foster City.
