Need a crossing guard? Citizens for Better Burlingame is sewing up its "$32 Solution" to help fund school crossing guards, and has raised $27,034. In the next few weeks members will mail fliers to solicit donations and close the gap on the $32,000 needed. "We hope this final push will yield the $5,000 needed to fund this year's program," said member Dan Andersen, in a statement. Burlingame Elementary School District Sonny Da Marto said he is impressed with the effort. "It is remarkable when the community sees a need and comes to the aid of the children of Burlingame and that is what the Citizens for a Better Burlingame have done," he said in a statement. Checks for $32 can be mailed to the School Crossing Guard Fund, P.O. Box 117791, Burlingame, CA 94011. More information is available at www.betterburlingame.org.

Twenty-five members of the Boys and Girls Club at Turnbull Learning Academy in San Mateo got free haircuts from Cat Williams of Diva's Hair Design in Burlingame. Williams spoke to the kids about her profession and future visits are planned with doctors, dentists and financial advisors. On tap for the Mid-Peninsula Boys and Girls Club is a Pinewood Derby car-making class with grandparent Ralph Cole, a veteran woodworker. Cole said car crafting is a "work of love" and he enjoys volunteering as much as the kids enjoy learning how to build a fast little car. Time and place for the session are to be announced and Joseph Egan of the Mid-Peninsula club can be reached at 347-9891 ext. 103 or joee@midpenbgc.org.
