• San Carlos is holding its annual free shredding event, allowing residents to shred up to five boxes of material and, new this year, drop off used motor oil and antifreeze, latex paint, florescent lighting tubes, cooking oil and electronics for recycling. The event is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Shoreway Environmental Center, 333 Shoreway Road, San Carlos
