After months of speculation surrounding the historical significance of Bay Meadows race track, a new study emerged claiming it should be torn down.

The Bay Meadows Land Company turned over a report to the San Mateo City Council last night by Page and Turnbull, a highly respected architectural firm based in San Francisco. The report concludes the previous research done by Ward Hill for the city of San Mateo on the historical significance of Bay Meadows was insufficient. It also determined that Bay Meadows was historically significant between 1934 and 1945, but the building no longer contains enough original architecture to qualify for the state or national registry of historical places, said Bay Meadows representative Chris Meany.
