As PG&E crews work to restore power to customers across the Bay Area, this morning's rough weather is causing additional outages. As of 8 a.m., 22,000 customers were without power, PG&E spokeswoman Katie Romans said. That number is up from 7,000 just two hours earlier but down from 56,000 on Tuesday. The majority of the outages are in the South Bay, where about 12,000 customers are without power, Romans said. She said 7,000 customers are affected by outages in the East Bay, 1,900 on the Peninsula, 870 in the North Bay and about 65 in San Francisco. "This main front hit us with heavy rain and thunder this morning in the East and South Bay," Romans said. Crews are working under challenging conditions that are expected to last through the afternoon and evening, she said.
